The Earthwork Superintendent will report to the Operations Director and will schedule all earthwork, roadwork, self-performed work, and coordinate field crews through directives given to foremen as well as plan and schedule all requirements to control labor, equipment and material costs. This individual will be responsible for the timely completion of assigned operations and stay within budget. Duties and Responsibilities: •Pre-plan of work activities to meet contract, schedule and quality requirements including safety action plans. •Review all contracts, project documentation and plans to ensure the work in the field is built to specifications. •Oversee field personnel, schedules and construction operations. •Manage project field operations and coordinate work with other personnel and subcontractors. •Provide leadership and direction to field crew. •Responsible for job performance as it relates to company goals, safety audits and company policies and procedures including training, orientation, discipline, etc. •Emphasize safety, quality and production. •Ensure proper safety equipment is available and used by all field personnel. •Train and motivates employees. •Perform a variety of administrative tasks including weekly and look ahead schedules, production reports, equipment logs, inspection reports, change orders, and updating project files. •May operate heavy equipment and assist with labor when needed. Qualifications: •A minimum of 5 years of experience in heavy civil construction industry is required. •Knowledge of earthwork and heavy highway construction. •Desire and willingness to adapt to various work disciplines, contract types and Owners. •Knowledge of occupational hazards. •Ability to read and understand project specific documents including plans, schedules, and specifications. •Ability to keep records and to prepare work and time reports. •Ability to understand and efficiently carry out instructions. •Ability to supervise the work of others and clearly communicate instructions to crew. •Through knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work being performed. •Professional with strong client relation skills. •Strong verbal and written communication skills. •General knowledge with Microsoft Office. Physical Requirements: •Ability to effectively work outdoors and operate heavy equipment if necessary at construction sites. •Ability to frequently stand, walk, climb, balance, lift, bend, and move objects up to 50 pounds. •Willingness to be exposed to all weather conditions including very wet, hot and cold elements. The Design Engineer / Estimator will be based in our Denver, Colorado office and manage all aspects of design and cost estimates for large heavy civil projects involving roadway construction projects that include earthwork and utilities. Responsibilities:

  • Create detailed cost estimates arranged to follow the pricing format required by the project
  • Research pricing for estimates based on historical and regional costs
  • Provide high level design scoping of the project to create the estimate summary and outsourcing control worksheets
  • Visit project work sites, participate in pre-proposal meetings, clarify scope of work, and prepare RFI's;
  • Prepare written statement of qualifications and/or proposals that respond directly to project owners’ requests for qualifications and requests for proposals
  • Evaluate projects for constructability and value-engineer cost savings
  • Work closely with SEMA personnel and other stakeholders to develop strategy, competitive differentiation, and an overall understanding of the project
  • Understand and seek out specialty subcontractors and suppliers that fulfill the unique requirements of the project
  • Develop and/or manage the development of a preliminary bid schedule
  • Develop self-performed estimates for the trades that we choose to self-perform
  • Work closely with subcontractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders through the bid process to understand and capture the complete scope of each trade in the scope summary sheets and the estimate at large
  • Accurately utilize project plans and specifications to identify scopes of work, assign crews, schedules, materials and subcontracting opportunities
  • Manage bid receipt of subcontractor and supplier pricing to develop SEMA's final selling price and offer
  • Understand and manage SEMA's risk as part of the proposal preparation process
  • Work with team to close the estimate in HCSS
  • Work on a preliminary project schedule based on the information provided in the plans and specifications utilizing Primavera Contractor software
  • Proposal development and technical writing
Job Requirements:
  • 4-year BS degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management, (P.E. preferred)
  • 5+ years of experience in heavy civil roadway design and estimating required
  • Experience in all aspects of heavy civil work scopes preferred
  • HCSS (Heavybid Software), Agtek, and Primavera P6 strongly preferred
  • Alternate delivery experience preferred, including technical writing skills
  • Strong prioritization and organizational skills
  • Sense of urgency and the ability to multi-task
  • Highly productive and willing to manage a busy work schedule independently
  • Superior verbal and written (including technical) communication skills

Ideally, the Schedule Engineer will be based out of SEMA’s Corporate office in Centennial, CO.  The ideal candidate will be a strong collaborator and will report to SEMA's Senior Scheduler. Candidate must possess heavy civil, alternative delivery, transportation, and public works scheduling experience. The Schedule Engineer will utilize Primavera P-6 Scheduling Software to plan and schedule activities for a variety of construction project types including rip-and-read, design-build, and CM/GC. The Schedule Engineer will work directly with various project teams across SEMA’s Texas, Rocky Mountain, and Southeast Districts, so some travel will be required. This is a client-facing position that requires 100% on-time project schedule delivery. The Schedule Engineer must be a self-starter, and a team player with strong organizational and problem solving skills. Location flexibility will be considered for the right candidate. RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan, coordinate, and supervise all planning and scheduling efforts for large civil projects
  • Work with project management team to develop schedules
  • Interface with project management, project Owners, and subcontractors on all scheduling related issues, including reporting requirements, progress status, and preparing time impact analysis.
  • Write monthly analysis and weekly reports
  • Work with project team on what-if schedules to analyze impacts of differing construction means and methods
  • Ensure that SEMA’s planning and schedule standards are implemented and that all project related activities comply
  • Perform independent, alternative planning level schedules
  • Review proposal specifications and drawings to determine scope of work and required contents of schedule
  • Manage and coordinate with project management team to complete monthly status and narrative requirements
  • Read and interpret plans and specifications for the development of schedules
QUALIFICATIONS
  • 5+ years of scheduling experience
  • Strong technical skills including advanced skills in Primavera P-6 scheduling software
  • 4-year degree in Engineering or Construction related field, or equivalent combinations of technical training and experience
  • Strong verbal communication skills and technical writing skills
  • Experience managing multiple projects, plans and schedules
  • MS Project experience preferred
