SEMA Construction, Inc., a large and established heavy civil construction firm, has an immediate opening for an experienced Project Coordinator located in our Orlando, Florida office. The Project Coordinator will assist several Project Managers in their daily activities including preparing, organizing, and maintaining project documentation. Project Coordinator must have previous Project Coordinator experience in construction, experience working with FDOT and other major Florida transportation agencies, be detail-oriented, professional, organized, and have advanced communication and computer skills. Project Coordinator Responsibilities Include:

  • Anticipating and providing company’s needs to access information, and general coordination with daily project activities
  • Coordinating the transmission of submittals; post award and during the active project
  • Acting as a liaison between company and project owners, subcontractors, and engineers on active projects
  • Highly organized record keeping and document management
  • Ensuring that memos, faxes, emails, and requests are promptly distributed to decision makers
  • Handling multiple priorities, duties, jobs/projects, and responsibilities
  • Working effectively and communicating well with a wide variety of people and clients, inside and outside of SEMA Construction
  • Assembling diverse data and preparing reports
  • Assisting with other departments in our firm as required
Requirements:
  • 1-3 years of related construction Project Coordinator experience
  • A Bachelors Degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university
  • 1-3 years of experience with and knowledge of FDOT, CFX, and other Florida transportation agency requirements
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office products
  • Experience with Viewpoint is a plus
  • A high-energy team player with a positive demeanor
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage many time-sensitive projects concurrently
  • An aptitude for a high-volume and fast-paced environment.

SEMA Construction, Inc. has an immediate opening for a Safety Professional for heavy civil construction projects in our Southeast District, and based out of our Orlando, Florida office. This position will require travel to project area sites outside of Orlando. Major Areas of Responsibilities Include:

  • Execute and implement SEMA Construction, Inc.’s Health and Safety Program.
  • Provide ongoing training for employees to understand, recognize and control health and safety hazards to improve working conditions/practices.
  • Identify and correct potential hazards by inspecting job sites, facilities, machinery and safety equipment.
  • Ensure that projects comply with OSHA and MSHA health and safety regulations, FRA regulations and SEMA policies and procedures.
  • Request and direct the installation of safety devices on equipment, if applicable.
  • Maintain and apply knowledge of current safety policies, regulations, and construction processes.
  • Investigate work related incidents/accidents to determine their causes (root cause analysis) to prevent recurrence.
  • Interview subcontractors and their employees to learn about their work to prevent or eliminate potential hazards.
  • Implement corrections to remedy safety concerns or observations found during safety inspections.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year university or comparable relevant work experience
  • 3-5 years of experience as a Safety Professional in heavy civil construction or related field
  • Experience and familiarity with highway and bridge construction including:
    • OSHA 1926 and 1910 Standards
    • Roadway and railroad worker protection regulations
    • Heavy equipment including cranes
    • Trenching and excavation
    • Fall protection
    • Confined spaces
    • OSHA record keeping

SEMA Construction has an immediate opening for an experienced Lead Estimator with a background in heavy civil construction. The Lead Estimator will be based in our Orlando, Florida office and be responsible for earthwork, structures, and underground utilities projects located within our Southeast District. Minimal travel will be required. The Lead Estimator will manage all aspects of developing cost estimates for large heavy civil projects. Responsibilities:

  • Create detailed cost estimates arranged to follow the pricing format required by the project
  • Research pricing for estimates based on historical and regional costs
  • Provide high level scoping of the project to create the estimate summary and outsourcing control worksheets
  • Lead outreach to subcontractor and supply community directly
  • Visit project work sites, participate in pre-proposal meetings, clarify scope of work, and prepare RFI's;
  • Evaluate projects for constructibility and value-engineer cost savings
  • Work closely with SEMA personnel and other stakeholders to develop strategy, competitive differentiation, and an overall understanding of the project
  • Understand and seek out specialty subcontractors and suppliers that fulfill the unique requirements of the project
  • Develop and/or manage the development of a preliminary bid schedule
  • Develop self-performed estimates for the trades that we choose to self-perform
  • Work closely with subcontractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders through the bid process to understand and capture the complete scope of each trade in the scope summary sheets and the estimate at large
  • Accurately utilize project plans and specifications to identify scopes of work, assign crews, schedules, materials and subcontracting opportunities
  • Manage bid receipt of subcontractor and supplier pricing to develop SEMA's final selling price and offer
  • Understand and manage SEMA's risk as part of the proposal preparation process
  • Work with team to close the estimate in HCSS
  • Work on a preliminary project schedule based on the information provided in the plans and specifications utilizing Primavera Contractor software
  • Proposal development and technical writing
Job Requirements:
  • 4 year BS degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management, P.E. preferred
  • 7-10 years of experience in estimating, Lead Estimator experience preferred
  • Experience in all aspects of heavy civil work preferred
  • HCSS (Heavybid Software), Agtek, and Primavera P6 strongly preferred
  • Alternate delivery experience preferred
  • Strong prioritization and organizational skills
  • Sense of urgency and the ability to multi-task
  • Highly productive and willing to manage a busy work schedule independently
  • Superior verbal and written (including technical) communication skills
